design studio 3 f26

welcome to ds3! design studio ~ the gd department’s 2-year core studio track ~ explores many realms, all stemming from the overarching questions: β€œhow does (graphic) design operate?” and β€œwhat can graphic design accomplish?” this course is the continuation of your studies already begun in ds1 and ds2, and may be seen as a synthesis of skills and methods introduced in your first year, and a furthering of the idea of using graphic design to give voice to complex ideas.

as juniors ready to jump into the next phase of this multi-phase sequence, you will be given longer-term projects intermixed with in-studio workshops and exercises. our focus will be on the relational aspects of graphic design: culture, context, and community. upon completion of the design studio track, you will have a deeper sense of your own identity as a designer, and will be better able to frame questions and lines of inquiry on your own. end forms will be more emphasized than in ds1 and 2, in part as evidence that craft and working methods are evolving.
